For some reason a portrait of Barnabas the Barmy decided to follow me to breakfast. I really don't know why, as I don't recall ever having shown any interest in him in the past, and vice versa, but that didn't stop him from going on and on about how the Giants should form a tap-dancing troupe. Fortunately, he ran across a painting of Boris the Bewildered and decided to keep him company; apparently they're old friends. I really don't mind talking to some of the portraits, and even enjoy it in some cases, but it's rather disconcerting to have one following you around before you have even managed to gain some sort of sustenance. Especially when the topic of conversation is so completely absurd.
Putting that strange occurrence aside, though, I have to say that I'm rather pleased with the recent turn of weather. I'm looking forward to a relaxing day, actually. I only have my Ancient Runes and Herbology homework left to complete, and I expect to be finished with that by this afternoon. Then, I really don't have any definitive plans for the day. I think I might take a closer look at my new Charms anthology. Well, and the book that my sister sent me, The Healer's Helpmate.
Oh, and Remus! I hope that you're feeling better today! |

I'm going to hex the next person that comes up to me and says anything along the lines of 'apparently the sirens aren't the only temptresses plaguing us, eh, eh Smethley?'! A person can only deal with so much blatant insipidness before reaching a breaking point! I can say with utmost certainty that I have not been 'making the rounds', thank you. I can also say that if for some reason I was sneaking around the boy's dorms, there would be nothing hormonal about it.
A bright spot of the morning is that I've received my ordered copies of An Anthology of Eighteenth Century Charms and Flesh-Eating Trees of the World, so hopefully those two books will last me as reading material for one or two weeks, depending on homework, of course. I'm really quite excited about the Anthology!
And--
Oh, look, apparently my friendly precaution came too late.... If any of you happen to see someone walking around who is squawking like a chicken and appears to have feathers protruding from their head, ignore them.
I'm rather looking forward to Arithmancy and Potions today. Is anyone else? |

Honestly, I enjoy the rain. Give me a cloudy, rainy day anytime. I only hope that whatever creature Professor Kettleburn has for us today won't be one to drag poor, hapless students through the mud. I'm quite looking forward to Defense, as well. Meeting Professor Prewett should be suitably interesting. Or, I would hope so, anyway.
Also, apparently my sister got me a subscription for The Quibbler. While I'm usually a bit wary about that publication, they had an impressively in-depth article about the man who tried to jump on the train, Ian Brunigee. Really, what in Merlin's name could have possessed him to try what he did? If it really was about that Hit-Wizard, I'm sure Brunigee could have waited until he got back to speak to him. It's all still very strange. However, I found their story about Celestina Warbeck a bit hard to believe. I would think that, if her death really was imminent, there would be more of a fuss. I'm not sure if I really want to contemplate how a worm-like creature would have embedded itself in her wrist, either. I really hope that's not what Professor Kettleburn has planned for us today... I suppose we'll have to wait and see on that front.
Oh, yes, just for clarification... I didn't actually miss someone in Gryffindor setting their bed on fire, did I? |

If anyone is looking for a large, horned toad, I've got him in my possession. I caught the little guy trying to jump into the girl's showers and so far I haven't been able to find out who he belongs to. I suppose if he isn't reclaimed in the next two days I'll hand him over to Professor McGonagall, but I thought I'd give whoever the owner is a chance to reconnect with their small, amphibian companion.
Oh, yes, and I got my schedule! I have a feeling that I'd go into apoplectic fits if I ever thought too hard on how much schoolwork I'm in danger of getting with this being my OWLs year, but I'm quite happy with my classes. Is anyone else in Gryffindor taking Ancient Runes this year? Or Arithmancy?
Also, if I hear one more first year describing how bloody fantastic it was to be in mortal peril on their first day of school, I might have to restrain myself from doing something drastic. Honestly, whoever that man was yesterday was not putting our lives in mortal peril. He didn't even get farther than the back of the train! Even if he had managed to make it aboard, I'm pretty sure someone could have tripped him and then watched as the Hit Wizards piled on. People that young should just... not speak. At least before lunch. Whilst I'm in immediate proximity. |
